Machine Guns[edit | edit source]

Machine guns are rapid fire weapons that inflict low damage per shot at mid to short range. An individual machine gun has low damage potential, but if fired into exposed armour has the potential to cause large quantities of critical damage, and the low weight and size means that when multiples are mounted, or combined into arrays, a mech can fire dozens of rounds in a single turn for massive damage, massive crits, and massive ammunition consumption.

Proto weapons[edit | edit source]

Introduced by Clan Blood Spirit in 3073, these Protomech sized Autocannons provide the punch of their bigger brothers but remain small enough to fit on protomechs.

Gauss[edit | edit source]

Gauss weapons use electromagnets to accelerate lumps of metal to high speeds, the impact force being sufficient to cause damage. As a result the ammo won't explode (it's just metal pellets), but the gun itself will as the necessary energy is stored in the gun at all times to allow it to be fired on a moments notice. Gauss weapons tend to have high range, high damage, and low heat generation, but are also heavy, bulky weapons.

LB-X[edit | edit source]

LB-X Gauss, also called Silver Bullet Gauss or Hyper Assault Gauss, fire a shotgun like spread of flechettes to inflict damage to multiple adjacent locations. The sheer quantity of shots, combined with boosted accuracy and crit chance make them perfect for exploiting holes in armour, but damage falloff makes them poor at dealing significant damage to a mech, unless you get in their face.

Big Guns[edit | edit source]

Some guns were not designed to be used on standard mechs, either mounted on tanks or other specially designed weapons platforms. These oversized guns all do large quantities of damage over long ranges, but require equally huge quantities of free tonnage, slots, and ammunition, while commanding a high price tag. If you want to use one yourself, you're probably also going to have to acquire the chassis it came from.
