Mechs are big fighting robots. Presumably if you've installed the mod with every crazy piece of equipment that Battletech has ever published you know this. In Roguetech a mech chassis is close to a blank slate. A chassis will have a certain tonnage and distribution of weapon hardpoints; it will have a number of internal slots dedicated to mandatory equipment like life support and arm and leg actuators. Other than that, the world is your oyster.

Mechs come in two main flavors. Standard mechs are almost entirely customizable, but altering or repairing them takes significant amounts of money and time. Omnimechs, which are with limited exceptions Clan Mechs, have a fixed set of internal components but can be repaired quickly and can be refit with a different loadout almost instantaneously. Omnimechs tend to have vastly more weapon hardpoints than standard mechs to facilitate that flexibility.

Roguetech used to give certain mech chassis quirks, but that system has been replaced by fixed equipment on certain mech variants. For instance, the CN10-7S version of the Centurion comes with a fixed Active Combat Shield, Advanced AMS, and Blue Shield Particle Damper on its left arm. The Mjolnir version of the Grasshopper has a unique FCS system that gives the Bulwark special ability plus +1 accuracy and +15% damage to PPC and Gauss weapons. And so forth and so on.

In exchange for this lack of flexibility these components are often rare or better than stock versions. The Active Combat Shield does not have an equippable equivalent. Also, these components cannot be permanently destroyed. If destroyed in battle simply repairing the chassis will bring back the fixed equipment good as new.

Certain improved fixed equipment can be replaced. For instance, the slightly upgraded cockpit equipment on SLDF Royal Mechs can still be replaced with customized equipment.

Mechs can have many classifications.

  • Clan Mechs: Advanced tech mechs from beyond Exodus Road.
  • Pirate Mechs: Mechs from the pirate factions usually have a trade off, lots of rigging and modifying leads to accidents.
  • Primitive Mechs: Mechs that use primitive technology and have lower combat capability.
  • Command Mechs: Mechs that have historically served as lance leaders.
  • Totem Mechs: Faction Specific mechs that boost morale in combat.
  • SLDF Royal Mechs: Lostech mechs recovered from history.
  • Land-Air Mechs: Mechs that can fly!!!
  • Superheavy Mechs: Boss mechs that spawn only in special contracts.
  • Hero Mechs: Mechs from Lore, customized with stock options by their pilots. - Legendary Tagged
  • Prototype Mechs: Mechs with new tech or a retrofit chassis to incorporate advanced designs. - Legendary Tagged
  • Elite Mechs: Mechs with customized non stock options. These mechs tend to have powerful quirks and or normally not available hardslots. - Legendary Tagged
